Pediatric Services

Who We Are

The Department of Pediatrics at Women & Infants Hospital is the sole site for high-risk neonatal services in Southern New England. We provide care in an 80-bed all single-family room Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. We provide care on the Mother Baby Unit in service of the routine delivery service. We are the sole site of newborn and neonatal educational activity for the Brown Alpert Medical School. We provide a high-risk newborn Follow Up Program and a developmental program under the auspices of the Brown Center for Children and Families.

We have a longstanding history of excellence in clinical care, research, and teaching. We are not only the only provider of high-risk neonatal services in Southeastern New England, we also provide pediatric and newborn services for coverage of every birthing hospital in Rhode Island as well as Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Massachusetts. Our longstanding participation in neonatal research has brought advances in newborn medicine to patients 5-10 years earlier than their eventual dissemination to the general population. We have trained multiple generations of pediatricians, family medicine specialists, medical students, and nursing students in the care of the newborn.

We will do our very best to provide the most personalized care for mothers and their newborn. We will pay attention to your individual needs whether they are for normal newborn issues or very sophisticated and complicated medical and behavioral problems. We have been recognized by the US News and World Report as a Center of Excellence for Neonatology. We provide newborn coverage to all of the birthing hospitals in Rhode Island as well as Sturdy Memorial Hospital in North Attleboro, Massachusetts.
